IES Intern Brings Home the Gold

Oklahoma City Intern Lazarus Elliott

Elliott Wins Mechatronics Event at Oklahoma SkillsUSA Competition

Industrial Electronic Supply (IES) is proud to announce that Lazarus Elliott, an intern at our Oklahoma City branch, won 1st place in the SkillsUSA competition held in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

We are extremely proud of Lazarus and the skill he exhibited during the competition, as well as throughout his internship...

Showing Superior Skill in Competition

Representing Francis Tuttle Technology Center at the Oklahoma SkillsUSA competition, Lazarus and his teammate competed in Mechatronics, which combines Industrial Mechanics, Industrial Electricity, and Computer Science to create automated systems.

At the competition, they were assigned the Conveyor and Stacker systems, operating them with a Siemens S7-1200 PLC they prepared in advance. The Conveyor used sensors and a solenoid diverter to sort products, while the Stacker combined pneumatics and electrical systems to move items with a suction arm.

The competition began with a 20-minute written exam on electrical fundamentals. They then built, wired, and programmed the Conveyor to sort metallic and non-metallic items. For the Stacker, they configured directional control valves and sensors to automate product movement. Additional tasks included troubleshooting a 24VDC circuit and wiring two electrical schematics while performing voltage, current, and resistance measurements.

After a full day of competition, Lazarus and his teammate won the gold in Mechatronics at this year's state competition and will compete in the 2025 SkillsUSA National Championships later this month in Atlanta!

Embracing Experience on the Job

As he did during this competion, Lazarus has demonstrated remarkable potential and dedication since joining our team in November of 2024.

Lazarus has spent this time gainng valuable experience across a variety of roles, including the essentials of customer service in inside sales, the shipping and receiving procedures of warehouse operations, and the customer focused sales skills employed by account managers in the field.

Oklahoma City Branch Manager Jeffrey Bishop shared that he is hopeful for a very promising, long-term future for Lazarus who he regards as a "great asset to IES."
